Going on a staycation doesn’t mean that you have to cut back on your enjoyment of holidays. In fact, it opens your eyes to all the great locations you’ve missed out on while being here. Of course, with so much to see in the world, travelling outside the country will always be hugely exciting for anyone that’s willing. But the need to cut down our carbon footprint is ringing in our ears now more than ever – and we need to start listening. Here are some ways you can do your bit for the environment by investing in a UK staycation.
Travel
Going on a staycation causes a lot less pollution than jetting off to a foreign land. In fact, before the COVID pandemic, it was recorded in 2017 that aviation was the cause of 7% of the UK’s total emissions produced. The damage caused by hopping onto an aeroplane or even a cruise ship is far greater than driving your car for a few hours to get where you need to be. This is even better if you’ve already made the switch to electric. You don’t have to drive to get around in the country, with plenty of train links available across the country to take you wherever you want to go.
While you’re there
Given you may be going somewhere unfamiliar when travelling away, its most likely you’re going to be reliant on taxis and public transport to get around. Also, it isn’t like you’ll be able to take your bikes with you on the plane, is it? A staycation is different, especially if you stay at one our holiday parks in Wales. All you could need is minutes away at most, encouraging holiday makers to either get on their feet – or their pedals.
Plenty to explore
As we’re on the topic, opting for a staycation gives you so many opportunities to go on scenic walks and trails. You’ll be spoilt for choice in places to explore and feel awe inspired by – it’s also fantastic for your physical and mental health. Some of our caravan parks are in more rural areas, such as Shropshire and Mid Wales, which are filled with natural scenes and sights to see.
Supporting local businesses
While it may not seem like you’re doing much to combat climate change, visiting the local shops, rather than the multinational chains you can find at home, does a lot more for the environment than you think. Business owners are less likely to travel far to get their produce, having a significantly less carbon footprint than companies which import goods on a worldwide scale.
Saving the environment while you sleep
Even your accommodation matters when it comes to cutting down on pollution. According to a recent study, staying in a hotel releases up to ten times more CO2 into the atmosphere than a caravan on average. So, whether you’re staying with us in your own static caravan, or pitching up at one of our touring parks in Wales, you’ve made the right decision regardless.
You’re in control
We’ve all been there. You’ve overstayed your welcome while on holiday and you just can’t wait to be back home. Th only problem is, you have to wait for your flight home which could be days away and you’re wasting energy somewhere you don’t want to be. If you’re craving the comfort of your own bed, there’s nothing stopping you while travelling in the UK. You can go home whenever you’d like, in mere hours.
Getting away from it all
Don’t book the destinations that everyone else is heading to, you’ll only be contributing to local pollution which will be sure to have harmful consequences in the future. Our advice, head to where the air is the cleanest and surround yourself in naturally green areas. You’ll be repaid in peace, quiet and a clear conscience.
