New managers appointed for Shropshire fishery and holiday park

April 2022

New managers have been appointed for a picturesque Shropshire fishery and holiday park which is the focus of £2 million future investment.

Shaun Johnson and Alison Naughton have been appointed to spearhead the development of Spring Lea Fishery and Holiday Park at Lea Cross, near Shrewsbury.

Spring Lea Fishery and Holiday Park, which nestles on the edge of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has five, restocked carp and coarse fishing pools, 20 seasonal, hardstanding pitches for touring caravans and motorhomes and 10 premium camping pitches.

Further development at the dog-friendly park will include 40 holiday homes, 18 glamping pods, six luxury lodges and new reception and facilities building with a gym, café and outside eating area.

Each of the camping pitches, which will be available from July 29 to mid-October, are for up to six people and for a minimum stay of two nights.

Shaun has spent the past 25 years working in the holiday park industry across the UK while Alison worked for the late Sir Eric Parker for 10 years in West Sussex before being employed by two Saudi Princes on their private studs.

Alison is also a dog trainer, canine behaviourist and nutrition specialist.

The couple have moved from the Cotswolds to take up the post at Spring Lea and are excited by the potential of the park and fishery.

“We were attracted to job because we could see the future of the park,” said Alison. “Having seen the high standards set by Salop Caravan Sites’ other parks, we couldn’t wait to get involved.

“I previously worked for two Saudi Princes on their private studs foaling down brood mares in late winter and early spring. Some of the foals I delivered could be worth in excess of half a million pounds. In the summer, I maintained the grounds to the highest standard possible.”

Shaun added: “Our aim is to make people feel really welcome and to put our stamp on the development of the park, which is a major opportunity for local businesses. It is going to be a beautiful park to visit.”
