Defibrillator installed at Llandanwg Holiday Park

August 2019

A potentially life-saving defibrillator has been installed at Llandanwg Holiday Park.

Delighted by its arrival, Peter and Rita Richards, the park managers, said a series of fundraising events supported by caravan owners and the local community had helped pay for the defibrillator.

The device, which gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest, was installed at the park’s laundrette at the end of March.

Rita said: “We are really pleased to have a defibrillator at the park and everyone was very generous in raising most of the money required, with Salop Leisure kindly making up the difference.

“The funds were raised in just one season, starting with a coffee morning.

“We then had a music day when we put refreshments on and everyone was entertained by a singer.

“We held our annual boules tournament, which was well attended, while we also had a photography competiton and some other smaller coffee mornings.

“There was also a jar in reception, so when people came in and bought gas they would generously put some money in.

“Local residents also helped with the fundraising. There’s about 30 houses in the village and we usually invite local people along if we are having an event.

“We have put notices up about the defibrillator at the local train station, which is just five minutes away, and also at the car park by the beach.

“The defibrillator is here for our customers and also for the local community.”

Llandanwg is one of nine caravan holiday home parks and a resort owned by Salop Leisure raising money to each buy a defibrillator this year.

Tony Bywater, the chairman of Salop Leisure, said the health and wellbeing of customers whilst holidaying was paramount.

“We want to do everything we can to look after the wellbeing of our customers whilst they are on holiday with us,” he added. “Customer research has told us that they like the comfort of having a defibrillator available on the park and that is our target for 2019.

“Each park will be fundraising to provide a defibrillator with the company’s support.”
